Painting it Green
14th August, our beloved country’s Independence Day, is a
cherished occasion that we celebrate with utmost zeal and fervor.
This year the women at PTCL decided to adorn green in spirit of
female independence, empowerment and solidarity. The message
was reciprocated by all PTCL offices nationwide, and the day was
celebrated like never before.
Self-Defence
Self-defence is a critical skill to hone for every individual and every
woman in particular. The Pink Club arranged a customised
self-defence masterclass by Shotokan Karate Schools Pakistan, at
the PTCL Training Academy. Instructor Qasim Suleman along with
his team taught the audience several pertinent techniques and
encouraged them to gain the strength and confidence necessary
to lead their lives independently.
Pink for a Cause
The Pink Club ran a nationwide campaign ‘Pinktober, and
celebrated a month of ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ to educate
people on the likelihood of the disease and how it can be
diagnosed in time through simple self-examination techniques.
The Pink Club runs a campaign on the cause every year, which is
why all regional offices hold awareness sessions for staff on the
same. In 2018, PTCL’s corporate logo was turned pink on all social
media platforms and the PTCL Headquarters building was
illuminated in the same colour to announce solidarity to the cause
to show our commitment, as well as to raise awareness amongst
employees, customers and the society at large.
Additionally, The Pink Club hosted an insightful session for all
female staff and female family members of male staff in Islamabad,
in which a Breast Cancer Survivor; Ms. Khanum Mumtaz Mirza
narrated her story of how she was diagnosed with the disease, how
she struggled with denial, but eventually mustered the strength to
defeat it. The session was followed by a talk by PTCL’s in-house
Senior Medical Officer; Dr. Asma Mahfooz who oriented female
staff on self-examination techniques and answered audience’s
queries related to different aspects of the disease. To conclude the
event, Syed Mazhar Hussain (Chief Human Resource Officer)
offered words of strength and reiterated the importance of such
forums to discuss female-related issues more than ever, as the
number of female employees has significantly increased over the
years. After the event, members of the audience bonded over tea
and walked-off with the commitment to take care of their health.
