PTCL organizes Breast Cancer Awareness drive in collaboration with Pink Ribbon

Islamabad, Oct 23, 2017: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), the country’s leading ICT services provider, in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Pakistan held Breast Cancer awareness session at PTCL Head office in Islamabad today. A large number of female staff members, along with the female family members of the male staff were provided with key information on how to tackle this challenge, various risk factors and prevention measures for early diagnosis of breast cancer to reduce the mortality rate and provide support to breast cancer patients.

This initiative, which was organized by the Pink Club of PTCL, highlighted the fact that one of the major concerns regarding the disease is the lack of information, which ultimately leads to failure in early diagnosis. The Pink Club of PTCL has been created for the sole purpose of improving health and well-being of all the women working at the company.

Showing its solidarity to the cause, PTCL Head office was illuminated in pink colour and all the PTCL staff members wore pink ribbon. Similar sessions to raise awareness about breast cancer were held by the female medical staff at the Regional Offices of PTCL, while awareness campaign through social media was also launched for all the members of Pink Club during the month as October is globally marked as Breast Cancer Awareness Month –PINKtober.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Mazhar Hussain, Chief Human Resource Officer, PTCL said, “We are glad to be part of such campaigns as we believe that raising awareness about health issues is the first step towards developing a healthy society. We greatly value the contribution of our female employees and are committed to their health and well- being. We acknowledge the positive role played by women and as a socially responsible organization urge them to spread awareness about breast cancer in their families and social circle.”

Representing Pink Ribbon on the occasion, Chief Executive, Pink Ribbon, Omer Aftab said, “A growing number of women in Pakistan are at the risk of breast cancer owing to lack of information. There are about 1.20 million women in Pakistan who have a high risk of having breast cancer in their lifetime, and almost 40,000 women die each year, yet there is lack of medical facilities for this disease.” He told that to cater the need of medical services for breast cancer, Pink Ribbon is building Pakistan’s first dedicated Breast Cancer Hospital, and the campaign needs ever more support to build this facility to ensure that none of us will have to bear the horror of losing a mother, a sister, a wife or a daughter. He further added that “We appreciate PTCL’s support for the cause. Such initiatives are sure to spread an effective message out to everyone.’’

Pink Ribbon Pakistan is the only nationwide campaign that has been working for the past several years to raise public awareness about the causes of breast cancer, promoting the significance of early detection for better treatment and survival. PTCL encourages positive development of the society and this motivation is deeply ingrained in its culture and tends to be the governing force behind this initiative.

PTCL posts profit of Rs. 6.5 billion for the first nine months of 2017

Islamabad, Oct 11, 2017: PTCL announced the financial results for the nine months’ period ended Sept 30, 2017 in its Board of Directors’ meeting held in Islamabad on October 11, 2017.

PTCL earned Rs. 52.8 billion revenue during first nine months of 2017. PTCL’s flagship Fixed Broadband service has started to grow at an accelerated rate, posting a revenue growth of 6% during Q3 over same quarter of last year compared to 4% growth for the first nine months versus same period last year. The same applies to Charji/LTE revenues, which grew 20% during Q3 and 7% during first nine months respectively compared to same periods last year. Likewise, Corporate and International revenues have also increased by 7% and 11% respectively on YoY basis. PTCL overall revenue of nine months is down by 3% over same period last year due to continued decrease in Voice and EVO revenues, which could not be offset by growth in other segments.

PTCL posted an after tax profit of Rs. 6.5 billion, which after being adjusted for one-offs, reduced by 7% over same period last year, mainly due to revenue decline and lower financial income.

PTCL’s 100% subsidiary UBank has started contributing positively to the bottom-line of the Group. The Group’s Net Profit increased by 37% over corresponding period of last year mainly due to successful settlement of certain legal issues during the period and improved bottom line of Ufone.

Continuing with its transformation journey, PTCL has successfully upgraded further exchanges in the last quarter, bringing more customers into the ambit of high-end data services so they can enjoy high speed reliable Internet. As quality content demand is increasing day by day, PTCL is providing local and international entertainment content to its high data package broadband customers through its partnership with iflix. Charji/LTE services are showing growth in Azad Jammu Kashmir and PTCL is now extending these services to KPK and Baluchistan, along with other major cities like Multan, Gujranwala and Sialkot so our customers can enjoy 4G LTE speed in these areas. PTCL’s partnership with IBM Cloud is showing good adoption & growth in corporate sector. Asia Africa Europe (AAE-1) is now contributing towards resilience of PTCL Submarine infrastructure & also catering to the growing internet bandwidth needs of the country. -Ends

PTCL commissions Pakistan operations of AAE-1 submarine cable system

Islamabad, July 07, 2017:  PTCL today announced the commissioning of Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) cable system that connects South East Asia to Europe via Egypt. Spanning over 25,000 kilometers, it is the largest submarine cable to be constructed in almost 15 years.

With a capacity of at least 40 terabits per second across 5 fiber pairs, AAE-1 is designed from the outset with 100Gbps transmission technology, which may be upgraded in the future to fulfil increasing bandwidth demand. Salient features of AAE1 are Low Latency, no difference between Trunks or Branch and express traffic between any two points.

PTCL has been providing fixed line telephony services to the nation for the last 70 years and is also the country’s largest provider of Broadband services. Being Pakistan’s telecommunication backbone, PTCL is already a member of three other international submarine cable consortiums; SMW-3, SMW-4 and IMEWE.

PTCL’s huge investment in AAE-1 demonstrates its commitment to customers for providing a better quality of service via diverse and redundant routes, which no other operator in Pakistan can match. Further, PTCL will be able to cater for growing bandwidth requirements of its customers to support live streaming and watching HD content over internet, thus furthering its commitment of building a digitally connected Pakistan. Network diversity is a priority in network planning. It is critical to have more than one route; for continuity of services, for security and for efficiency of the network.

PTCL has joined hands with world leading Telecom Operators including China Unicom, CIL (HyalRoute), Djibouti Telecom, Etisalat, GT5L, Mobily, Omantel, Ooredoo, OTEG, PCCW, Reliance Jio, Retelit, Telecom Egypt, TeleYemen, TOT, Viettel, VNPT and VTC to connect Pakistan to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, with Malaysia and Singapore, then onwards to Myanmar, India, in the East and Oman, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France. AAE-1’s completion will not only provide the primary route of choice but also offers protection and diversity to existing vulnerable and heavily congested routes.

AAE-1 is an open access network connecting carrier neutral PoPs in Hong Kong, Singapore, and France where operators can choose their preferred backhaul providers in the PoPs or at the AAE-1 Cable Stations. It provides reliable connectivity to gateways in Gulf Countries (Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE) and South East Asia (Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand), to Africa (Djibouti) and critically diverse subsea connectivity to emerging markets in Myanmar, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam and Yemen.

Etisalat Named Most Valuable Telecom Brand Portfolio in Middle East

Islamabad: March 31, 2017, Etisalat’s stable of brands has been named the most valuable of any telecoms brand portfolios in the Middle East, as measured by London-based brand valuation and strategy consultancy, Brand Finance.  As well as the core Etisalat brand which is present in home-base UAE, plus Egypt, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, the company also has ownership stakes in Mobily in KSA, PTCL and Ufone in Pakistan, and the Maroc Telecom and Moov brands in Africa.  At a value of USD $7.728 billion, this places the Etisalat portfolio at a comfortable USD 1.5 billion, ahead of second-placed STC, whose combined value is 25% lesser at USD 6.218 billion.

PTCL and Ufone represent a sizeable portion of the current Etisalat brand portfolio value. PTCL’s brand value is USD 86 million and that of Ufone is USD 50 million. The PTCL USD brand value in Etisalat’s stable of brands is 7th out of 11 operations.

PTCL is the largest information communication technology (ICT) services provider in Pakistan. With cutting-edge technology, including voice telephony, fixed and wireless broadband, Smart TV (IPTV) and OTT applications like Smart TV app, Smart Link app and PTCL Touch, PTCL serves the ever-increasing connectivity needs of millions of consumers nationwide. Its Smart TV app was also nominated last year at the GSMA Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) in Barcelona and GSMA Asia Mobile Awards (AMO) in Shanghai. PTCL’s corporate and digital solutions cater to the communication needs of leading multinationals, banks and other organizations, while its carrier services form the backbone of core infrastructure services to cellular and LDIs.

A key contribution to this result was an increase in the strength of the flagship brand, Etisalat, jumping from a rating of AA- last year to AA+ for 2017, and increasing 45% year-on-year in brand value. The company has been pursuing a focused programme of brand activities, encompassing the management of significant global sponsorship properties such as FC Barcelona, as well as contribution of local operations, like PTCL’s Islamabad United Sponsorship in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Increased revenues for the Group have also contributed to the rise in brand value this year.

Brand Finance values thousands of brands annually to compile its ‘Global 500’ and ‘Telecoms 500’ listings, as well as numerous other sectors, regions and individual market league tables. 2017 marks the first year that Brand Finance has conducted a study of Telecom brands on a portfolio basis.

Commenting on Etisalat’s strategy, Brand Finance CEO, David Haigh said: “As well as developing its core brand, Etisalat has pursued a broader brand portfolio strategy as a way to build business value through leveraging branded assets.”  David Haigh said the latter gives the opportunity for branded development of a broader converged proposition, involving mobile and fixed line operators in the shape of Ufone (mobile) and PTCL (fixed line).

About PTCL

PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited) is the largest ICT service provider in Pakistan and has been serving the nation since 1947. Guidelines for High Rise Buildings

In order to construct a building fit for modern times, it is important to ensure that facilities like internet and TV are well-planned for in advance, as they are now basic necessities. To avoid any future complications, the building needs to be constructed with certain specifications in mind. The following guidelines are designed to inform you about these pre-construction specifications.

A “Main Telecom Equipment Room”, approximately 4 x 4 x 8 feet (Length x Width x Height), should be designated in the building. This room must have sufficient exposure to sunlight, safety features and an efficient locking system to ensure that only authorised personnel can enter. Do not let any drainage or seepage pipes pass through the Main Telecom Equipment Room.

You will need to ensure that a 4-inch Qatar Pipe is laid out between the building’s entry box
and the Main Telecom Equipment Room. This pipe will also have a 6mm Nylon Rope that will grant the telecom service provider access to the Main Telecom Room. Both ends of this pipe must be carefully sealed to avoid any waste material getting in.

An “Equipment Fixing Rack” should also be created inside the Main Telecom Room with the
following specifications:

Building Type Rack Size
G+4 (5 stories) 6 U
G+5 to 10 (6 – 11 stories)l 9 U
G+11 to 20 (12 – 21 stories) 12 U
G+20 and above 18 U
Commercial Building +
Shopping Mall
42 U

Each floor should have a “Mini Telecom Room”, approximately 2 x 2 feet in size, that is connected to the Main Telecom Room through a “Riser (4-inch width)”. This Riser will consist of 2 properly labelled, single mode fiber cables for each flat/tenant/office. These cables should be labelled properly with the relevant flat/office number/etc.

If an area has more than 5 customers, an 8 fiber cable should be laid from the point of use to the Main Telecom Room and the 2 fiber cable will not be needed. Every flat/office must be equipped with 2 x 2 feet “Distribution Panel Box” with a main electrical socket attached to it. For every point where telecom services will be needed, a Category 6 Ethernet Cable should be laid. It is important to ensure that Category 6 Cables are no longer than 55 metres, as this can negatively impact the efficiency of telecom services.

All the sockets and connectors attached to the Category 6 Cable should be as per 568B standards.
