The Policy: Understanding the Context

• Corruption may occur by the misuse of a position of trust in order to gain an undue advantage. It may include misuse of entrusted business resources for personal gains, living beyond one’s means, theft of funds and company assets, etc.
• At PTML, we have a top-level commitment to preventing bribery. Compliance with ABAC Policies is ensured through a set of procedures, processes, controls, training & awareness and whistle-blowing mechanism.
• Bribery and corruption on the part of our business partners/associates and third parties may expose us to various risks, even without our involvement. To mitigate the exposure to such risks, PTML, during the course of its business relationship, strives to vigilantly monitor their ethical business conduct and requires them to adhere to the following ABAC Policy Guidelines.

1. Facilitation Payments

• Do not pay/accept or offer to pay/accept any facilitation or "grease" payments to speed up business activities or secure any business for PTML.
• If someone demands or expects an illegal payment, we do not yield to such demand.

2. Gifts, Entertainment, Meals, Travel and Hospitality

5. Managing transactions with Intermediaries and Third Parties

• All third parties that work with or on behalf of PTML must operate in accordance with the standards of ethical business conduct and applicable laws.
• When dealing with intermediaries and third parties, PTML conducts due diligence of their business activities, including, but not limited to, a reasonable investigation into their background, reputation, and adherence to ABAC guidelines and applicable laws.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) would like to update its customers that due to multiple cable cuts, internet services were impacted in different regions across Pakistan.

Commenting on the scenario, Fariha Tahir Shah, General Manager, Corporate Communication, PTCL, said, “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our valued customers. PTCL has deployed all its technical resources to restore and stabilize the services as soon as possible. Furthermore, internet services have been partially restored in many areas.” She added that a high level investigation committee has been constituted to determine the root cause of the outage.

PTCL Management today announced a Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) for its employees.  The scheme offers an even more attractive package than the previous schemes. It has been designed based on the feedback of employees, and will be highly beneficial for those who opt for it. Effective November 28, 2016, the scheme is expected to be availed by around 3000 employees.

Speaking to the press today, Syed Mazhar Hussain, Chief Human Resource Officer PTCL, said:

“The previous Voluntary Separation Scheme was greatly appreciated by employees as it offered a very lucrative package. In the last Scheme of 2014, we could not relieve all the employees who opted for this scheme, since business could not let go of such a sizable employee base at once, and risk stalling operations. However, with the successes reaped from the previous schemes and improved company performance, PTCL is now in a better position to offer this scheme to around 9,000 employees and can manage to relieve around 3,000 employees”

As the largest telecommunications provider in the country, PTCL strives to be the best in class and works continuously in improving to attaining the market standing. VSS is just one small step in that vision of being a leading service provider. “In addition to an attractive package of up to 100 basic salaries and several other financial benefits, PTCL will also arrange vocational training, recruitment support through headhunters and financial management through experts at PTCL’s expense. This is just our small token of appreciation and reward for the employees’ lifelong commitment to the company and to help them sustain a stable future” Syed Mazhar Hussain added.

As a company which puts its employees and customers first and foremost, PTCL has ensured that this scheme incorporates the maximum possible benefits that the company can reasonably provide to its employees. In addition to the packaged benefits, the scheme has several exclusive incentives and bonuses. Salient features of the VSS scheme are:

1. Regular employees will receive Transition pay with a multiplier of 4 (i.e. 4 times years of service) whereas New Compensation Pay Group (NCPG) employees will receive it with enhanced multiplier of 6 times years of service.
2. Minimum length of service for eligibility of pension has been reduced from 20 to 18 years and the retiring employees will get the pensionary benefits of additional 2 years of service.
3. Pensionable employees also have the option to choose between a lump sum payment of enhanced commutation or continued pension, depending on their particular aspirations.
4. NCPG optees will be given Gratuity up to 4 times of basic salary (gratuity will be tax exempted)
5. All the scheme optees will be given Leave Encashment of 180 days irrespective of their leave balances
6. Allowances of 6 months for Regular employees and 15 months for NCPG employees are also part of this lucrative package.

7. In case of early adopter of this scheme; an additional amount of PKR 200,000/- will be paid as Early Bird Bonus if the offer is accepted by the employee within first 20 days of the announcement date.
8. If 30% or more employees of the targeted population of any region will opt for the scheme, an additional amount of PKR 150,000 will be paid to each optee of that region.
9. Outstanding loan along with due markup will be written off.
10. EOBI pension benefits will also be provided to all employees opting for the VSS as per EOBI act and its rules.
11. To support the VSS Optees in getting the jobs in other companies, services of leading head hunters will be arranged at company’s expense. PTCL liability will be restricted to the Head hunters’ commission in case the employee is selected for any job.
12. In order to help the optees in beneficial cash management of their amounts, services of financial advisors (leading cash management companies/funds) will be arranged. Employees can consult them to having various investment options for making a better decision.
13. A comprehensive plan has been worked out to arrange Vocational Trainings at the expense of the company, enabling the optees to get the required skill set in different fields of their choice for a more affluent future

PTCL becomes the first Telecommunication operator in Pakistan to sign a partnership agreement with Netflix, the global internet television network for the Pakistan market. After this agreement, PTCL and Netflix will use their respective resources for mutual benefit, utilizing and maximizing the viewing experience and penetration of Netflix services in Pakistan. This agreement will serve as a way forward for both PTCL and Netflix to provide digital content fans in Pakistan with Netflix streaming. PTCL will support and promote original Netflix content in Pakistan.

PTCL became the only service provider in Pakistan with advanced caching servers and technical pairing with Netflix to offer the superior viewing experience since Netflix’s global launch in January 2016.

 Commenting on the agreement, PTCL’s Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Shahid said, “Digital entertainment is PTCL’s key priority and our partnership with Netflix is another step in this direction. We look forward to working with Netflix to offer new and exciting services including world class Netflix original series and movies in Pakistan.”

Islamabad, August 17, 2016:  PTCL will deploy 789 kilometers of fiber for ZONG which will enable delivery of quality telecommunication services for the Pakistan market. An agreement to this effect was signed by Dr. Daniel Ritz, President & CEO PTCL and Mr. Liu Dianfeng Chairman and CEO ZONG at a ceremony held at PTCL Headquarters.

This agreement will serve as a major milestone towards achieving PTCL’s vision of being the carrier of carriers and its pivotal role in promoting ICT services in Pakistan. This fiber leasing agreement will also enable Zong to utilize PTCL’s extensive nationwide fiber optic footprint and its expertise in deploying, operating and maintaining a fiber optic network.

Pakistan’s telecom market has recently started witnessing a sharp increase in the data usage preference of 3G/4G cellular subscribers. This emerging trend is pushing the need for extensive 3G/4G rollout across the country and creating a demand for effective BTS backhauling for seamless data transmission. This agreement will enable ZONG to further expand its fastest 3G and 4G network nationwide.

Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has signed an agreement with IBM Italia S.p.A (Pakistan), for launching Public Cloud Services in Pakistan. The IBM turnkey solution will be hosted at PTCL’s state-of-the-art Data Centers in Lahore and Karachi for corporate customers.

This is a landmark agreement between two leading industry players.  PTCL, using the IBM cloud platform, will be offering cutting edge services such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) with Virtual Private Servers (VPS), Disaster Recovery Site (DRS), Backup and Storage as a Service along with Webhosting Solutions and Compute on Demand to customers in Pakistan. The IBM cloud platform, equipped with the latest technologies, is an important step forward in developing a viable information technology infrastructure and a natural progression of PTCL’s successful datacenter business in Pakistan.

Islamabad June 17, 2016: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced that its Smart TV Application for mobile devices and Charji WiFi service at Rawalpindi/Islamabad Metro Buses  and stations have been internationally recognized as world class services and nominated for the forthcoming GSMA Asia Mobile Awards to be held in Shanghai at the end of this month.

The nominations include PTCL’s Smart TV mobile application for the ‘Best Mobile App Media, Film, TV or Video’ category, and PTCL’s Charji Metro WiFi service, for the ‘Connected Lifestyle’ category.

PTCL Smart TV mobile App is highly popular with smartphone and tablet users across Pakistan with over 150,000 users. Launched in 2015, the app has had the honor of being nominated for Mobile World Congress awards this year in Barcelona for bringing exclusive content  like Live ad-free Cricket World cup The user friendly app available for Android and Apple iOS tablets and smartphones allows users to watch 140+ live TV channels and up to 5,000+ hours of movies, dramas and kids content. Islamabad 28th April 2016: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) today held its 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) here in Islamabad.

PTCL Board of Directors have announced a final cash dividend of 10% amounting to Re.1.00 per share, which is a reflection of the company’s robust performance during the year ended 31st December 2015. The dividend is in addition to the interim cash dividend of 10% amounting to Re.1.00 per Ordinary Share. The total dividend for the year thus stood at 20% (Rs. 2.00 per share).

Dr. Daniel Ritz, President and CEO PTCL, members of PTCL Board of Directors as well as other stakeholders attended the meeting.

Islamabad, April 20, 2016:  Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, (PTCL) organized a free Medical Camp at Rawat Village near Murree. As part of the Company’s ongoing community outreach program, the camp is providing expert consultations and medicines to rural communities in hard to reach areas.

Since 16th of April, hundreds of patients suffering from different ailments have been examined at the medical camp by male and female medical experts led by Dr Erum Rubab, Senior Medical Officer PTCL.

The general trend of ailments that were observed includes scabies, conjunctivitis, gastrointestinal and cardiac diseases.

Free medicines were also provided to a large number of patients who were unable to procure expensive medicines from the market for themselves. People of the area expressed their sincere gratitude towards PTCL for its valuable efforts of reaching out to rural communities, and setting up a much needed medical camp in their area.

Telenor will benefit from this agreement in terms of upgrading its cellular backhaul to cater for exponential data growth in the aftermath of 3G/4G regime in the country. This agreement also serves as a major milestone towards achieving PTCL’s overall vision of becoming ‘The Carrier of Carriers’ by leveraging its strengths in infrastructure and services domain.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Daniel Ritz, President and CEO PTCL said, "This agreement is indicative of how PTCL's vast network serves as the primary framework for Pakistan's communications infrastructure, connecting millions of consumers across the country. With over 35,000 KMs of fiber deployed across Pakistan, our partnership with Telenor Pakistan will help them to expand their 3G footprint further in order to provide high quality data and voice services to its growing customer base. PTCL will continue to play its major role in fiber and other telecom infrastructure developments in Pakistan, contributing further to the overall progress of the country.”

With cellular data expected to surge further in coming days thanks to 3G/4G regime, cellular operators are under immense pressure to upgrade their backhaul connectivity from radio to fiber. Senior management from both companies was present during the signing ceremony and expressed their firm belief that the agreement would go a long way in strengthening the bond between two companies, allowing them to deliver cost effective and high quality telecommunication services in a dynamic and highly competitive market.

Islamabad, April 14, 2016: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced today its financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 in its Board of Directors meeting held at Islamabad.

PTCL Group earned Rs. 29.3 billion revenue during the quarter whereas PTCL’s revenues were Rs. 18.0 billion. Data revenues increased compared to the same period last year. The Company’s profitability remained stable despite competition. Net profit of the Company stood at Rs. 3.1 billion which was 27% higher compared to Rs. 2.5 billion of same period last year. Likewise, PTCL Group’s profitability also increased significantly.

PTCL Group continues to invest into integrated solutions, delivering exceptional quality on the back of its proficient Data services. The Company is focused on creating more value for its customers and is refining its increasingly efficient and widespread network. PTCL’s sustained efforts in developing a next generation ICT infrastructure have translated into greater benefits for both its customers and shareholders.

Islamabad, March 04, 2016: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with ZTE Corporation for setting up a Joint Innovation Center (JIC) on Big Video in Pakistan. The JIC is a key initiative of PTCL and ZTE for Smart TV development, empowering PTCL to provide high quality video services to customers on TV and mobile devices.

The Joint Innovation Center, first of its kind in big video services in Pakistan, will allow both PTCL and ZTE to share resources, exchange knowledge and tap into the potential of the latest available technologies. Islamabad, Feb 10, 2016: PTCL has announced its annual financial results for the year ended December 31, 2015 in a meeting of PTCL Board of Directors held at Islamabad.

PTCL earned revenues of Rs. 75.8 billion for the FY 2015. Data revenues significantly increased by 12% compared with last year. The Company’s profitability continued to remain stable despite competition, especially in the broadband segment. Gross and net profit of the Company stood at Rs. 22.0 billion and Rs. 8.8 billion respectively. PTCL group’s revenues for the year stood at Rs. 118.6 billion. PTCL cash flows remained healthy and stable in FY 2015 due to continuous efforts to optimize costs  as well as  strong market position. This impetus continued across all business activities of PTCL including the fixed and wireless broadband and enterprise solutions.

Walid Irshaid, President & CEO PTCL said, “Our robust results again demonstrate the ability of our diversified line of business to perform to the expectations of our shareholders.” He further added, “PTCL’s performance during the past year is a strong indicator of our dynamic corporate direction, as well as our customers’ continued satisfaction in company’s products and services”.

Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has organized exclusive session for its employees on new emerging trends in Disruptive Technology. The session was conducted by Jason Pontin, Editor-in-Chief and the publisher of MIT Technology Review.

Disruptive Technology is an innovation that disrupts an existing market, improve  a product or service in ways that market does not expect, typically by reducing cost, increasing revenue, transforming business processes and developing new customer expectations. Mr. Jason shared 10 breakthrough technologies of 2015 and some of the areas in which the disruptive technology has played a significant role include Internet of Things, Big Data, Mobile Internet, Smart Phones, Social Networking and Cloud Computing.

Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has restored the communication services in earthquake hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

An earthquake with epicenter in Hindu Kush struck major parts of Pakistan and also affected technical infrastructure and communication links. PTCL responded proactively to this national calamity and its dedicated teams on ground through their round the clock efforts and hard work, restored most of the communication services in Shangla, Upper Dir and adjacent affected areas. Also, medical units were mobilized to facilitate the affectees by setting up free medical camps.

PTCL announced revenues of Rs. 58.1 billion for the period ended September 30, 2015 while gross and net profit of the Company stood at Rs. 17.8 billion and Rs. 7.9 billion respectively. 

PTCL group earned revenues of Rs. 90.1 billion, while gross and net profit of the group stood at Rs. 24.4 billion and Rs. 2.8 billion respectively.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) recently organized a humor-packed literary session themed ‘Sham -e- Maza’h’ for its employees and their families.

Renowned comic poet Professor Anwar Masood presided over the hilarious session, which included prominent comic poet Salman Gilani; Abdul Hakeem Nasif, Zahid Fakhri, Dr. Fakhar Abbas, Dr. Tahir Shaheer, Sarfraz Shahid, Dr. Inam ul Haq Javed, Dr. Saeed Iqbal Saadi, Idrees Qureshi, Dr. Badar Munir, Ali Zulfi, Jawad Hassan Jawad, Muhammad Arif, Saleem Akhtar and Shahbaz Chohan who brought bouts of laughter to the jam-packed hall.

The humorous poems ‘Banyan’, ‘Vela Baba’, ‘Kaddi Te Paiky Ja Ni Begum’ were the most appreciated items of the session given a standing ovation by the energetic crowd. Mr. Ali Yasir a young talented poet anchored the session and also kept the humorous tempo of the proceedings alive with his witty replies and rejoinders to the speakers and writers on the stage.

Besides, a highly significant segment of this unique session was a short journey down the memory lane in the form of selected readings on social and political satire.
