Islamabad, March 31, 2019: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) observes Earth Hour 2019 under the international WWF campaign ‘#Connect2Earth’ by turning off all lights at PTCL HQ in Islamabad from 8:30 to 9:30 pm.
PTCL HQ, a Green Office certified by WWF, observed one-hour solidarity to show its support towards the global cause. The company also encouraged its employees to participate by switching off non-essential lights at their homes.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Mazhar Hussain, Chief Human Resource Officer, PTCL, said, “We at PTCL, believe that observing Earth Hour demonstrates our resolve to work towards conservation of the environment. As a commitment towards this cause, we switched off extra lights to conserve power & energy and contributed in environmental preservation for a better future of our planet. As part of our pledge for clean and green Pakistan, we have started nationwide tree plantation campaign, planning to initiate cleanliness drives across major cities and providing customers with eBilling option.”
Rab Nawaz, Senior Director Programmes, WWF-Pakistan stated, “We are glad that PTCL is at the forefront to show solidarity towards Earth Hour. Pakistan is amongst the top ten countries affected by climate change. PTCL’s support in plantation of 200,000 mangroves seeds in Balochistan, under the nationwide tree plantation campaign, ‘Rung Do’, which is the largest commitment from corporate sector so far. All of us should pledge to take action in our capacity as an individual, business and policy & decision-maker to help save nature and protect the environment.”
Recently, the company has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Climate Change to plant 200,000 trees on PTCL sites across Pakistan and ban non-recyclable plastics at their HQ in Islamabad.
